Phytoextraction is a soil remediation technology, performed by plants, which are able to take up contaminants from soil. The scale of extraction and possible degbradation is an important issue in efficiency of phytoextraction. Efficiency can be increased by special, e.g. hyperaccumulating plants or plants which are abel to degrade (together with microbes or by the potential of their genetically modified genom).
- phytoremediation
- phytoextraction based soil remediation
contaminant in soil and in plant
Biological method, easily available agrotechnique
Plant accumulationg contaminants are in direct contact with the ecosystem: food chain risk is gigh.
The process is very slow, many years are necessary even for mobile contaminants.
Increase of effiviency is possible by hyperaccumulator plant and biodegrading gene introduction into plants.
The core process is based on good management and socio-economic assessment, the technology itself has less influence.
Contaminated plants in the environmnet, gene-manipulated plants in the environment, the treatment of the plants grown on the contaminated léand need special care and costs.
