A Zn, Cr, Cu, Cd esetében többszörös talaj-határérték túllépés jelentkezett, de a termés is 5-szörösére nőtt.

Toxikus elemtartalmat mérni és kontrollálni kell a talajban, főként ismételt talajra alkalmazás esetén. A komposzt elemtartalmának ismeretében kell megállapítani az alkalmazható mennyiséget és az alkalmazás gyakoriságát.
A toxikus elemek a növényekre, talajlakó állatokra és a talajmikroorganizmusokra egyaránt káros hatást gyakorolhat és a táplálékláncot is veszélyeztethet.
A toxikus fémek kémiai formájától függően lehet mozgékony, biológiailag hozzáférhető és nem mozgékony, vagyis stabil és biológiailag nem hozzáférhető. Utóbbi fémformák nagy összkoncentráció mellett sem jelentenek nagy kockázatot a környezetre.
