Description of the waste generating technology

A silózott kukorica egy mezőgazdasági termék. A silózásra termesztett kukoricát korán, még a kukoricacsövek teljes kifejlődése előtt learatják. Legtöbbször egy korai aratású növény után, vagy ha tavasszal megsemmisült egy adott termék, mintegy kármentesítőként vetik a silózásra szánt kukoricát. A learatott/ledarált kukoricát ezután PE zsákokban vagy fém tartályokban levegőtől elzárva erjesztik. Ezalatt vegyes mikrobakultúra szaporodik el (többnyire tejsavbajtériumok és élesztők), lecsökken a pH és megemelkedik a nyersanyag fehérjetartalma. A silózott kukorica legnagyobb felhasználási területe az állati takarmányozás, de a csökkenő állatállomány, illetve magas nitrogéntartalma miatt egyéb hasznosítására is van mód.

Napjainkban a silókukoricát elsősorban szarvasmarha takarmányként hasznosítják. A silókukoricának van egy másik, napjainkban egyre nagyobb teret nyerő felhasználása; adalékanyagként használják biogázüzemekben. Itt nem csak silózott kukoricát, de más silózással érlelt nyersanyagokat, mint például füvet is alkalmaznak. Abban az esetekben hasznos a silózott anyagok adagolása, ha az erjeszteni kívánt anyagáramnak magas a szén:hidrogén aránya, ez általában ipari vagy esetleg kommunális szenyvíziszapok biogázosítása során léphet fel.
